Awaiting 6th injection

Good Morning,

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. As you all slept we went out for another adventure. Nothing to exiting just passing time. We went with  four other families shopping and out to eat.  We  have discovered that after Wednesday we will become the senior family……what does that mean. We are the next to come home.  We have two families coming tonight and that is always nice to have more people to share our story with and to hear there’s. Kyle has a new friend that he has bonded with his name is Lawrence and he is from Texas. Tomorrow Kyle will have his 6th injection and we are in hopes of  writing more good news. I am going to start packing tonight (yes a little premature) but it makes me feel better. We miss you all and can’t wait to get home. Please keep up the writing it is what keeps us going

Love Penny, Andrew and Kyle

Good Nights Sleep

Last night we had the best sleep we have had since June 1st.  We spent the night at the Holiday Inn and got to sleep until 9:30am because we had dark curtains rather than yellow.  Andrew and I went to the buffet and had a great breakfast before heading back to the hospital for the rest of the day.  As soon as we entered the hospital we saw the new family from Texas and they asked me to go and get a coffee across the street, and you all know I said YES!!!!  Now we are going to take a nap then hang out in the lobby tonight.  Talk to you soon.

Even more

It is Kyle and when I got to the hospital, I couldn’t lift my right wrist.  However, when I got to P.T. this morning, not only did the muscles twitch and react, but I was able to lift my wrist up almost a quarter way back towards my arm!  I am so excited because it is the first great improvement since the second injection.  We are going to the Holiday Inn tonight for dinner with a ton of families and staying the night because we have tomorrow off.  Hope all is well with you as well and think of you often.

5th Treatment

Hello world it is Penny.

I am just writing to say Hi and to give you updates. Today has been a long day! Kyle is resting after he just recieved his 5th injection. It took the nurse 3 times before she got the IV in, after 3rd attempt I had her come back after an hour because Kyle’s hand was so sore. Finally they sent the head nurse in and she got it in the first time. We have been very busy with all the new families coming in. It’s funny how we have become the family showing and telling other’s on what to do and what not to do including what food should NOT be eaten. That is a sign of one good thing…………closer to coming home! One of the families that are staying at the Holiday Inn has given us a voucher for a free night stay so tomorow after Kyle’s therapy we will go and spend the night since we have Friday off. I have been wanting to start packing but the boys keep telling me not to, so I will wait until next week. We hope everyone is doing well and can’t wait to get home.

Take care and keep us in your thoughts and prayers

Love Penny,Andrew and Kyle

Rolling, Rolling, Rolling…

Today was a busy day again.  We didn’t sleep at all last night (bad food).  I still had theropy bright and early however.  Today after my normal stretching my theropist decided to have me roll about 10 times to each side in order to work my back muscles and improve my posture.  It was difficult the first time, but a breeze after that.  Then after a.m. P.T. we took a new family from El Paso to the Loti Mart accross the street and had lunch and an awesome coffee (I am going again in a few hours with a different family).  There are 2 new families comming tonight and 5 within the next week.  From what we have heard 1 has SMA.  Tomorrow is my 5th injection and I can’t wait!  Love you all and ta ta for now.

Back to Work

It is Kyle again and we had a busy weekend.  On Friday night our new friends from England took us out to dinner at the Holiday Inn and it was awesome.  Then on Saturday we took a taxi downtown to the Gemo Market and spent a few hours there before we went to a new Italian resturant and had yet another good meal.  Finally, yesterday we went to a French music festival and had a blast.  But it wasn’t all good.  Once we returned to the hospital, the fire alarm went on and off for 2 and a half hours which drove us nuts.  Also we had KFC for dinner and it was interesting to say the least.  In the chicken sandwich they put peas and carrots right in the meat!  It wasn’t bad though.  Today our fun ended when I started PT at 9.  Rolling was more difficult in the morning than in the afternoon which is odd because without my REAL wheelchair I get tired really easily.  I continue to show more strength in both arms and my jaw, but my neck gets tired because of the chair I am in.  My 5th injection is on wednesday and I will let you all know how it goes.  Cant wait to see everyone in 2 and a half weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Interesting day

Hi

This is Penny just waiting to go to therapy and thought I woud write a brief note since I am thinking about all of you. Today has been interesting already and it is only 2:00pm The boys and I took a cab to the Harley Davidson store and the Taxi driver didn’t know where it was at so we had to help direct him… HMMMMMM. On the way home we flagged down another taxi (keep in mind we can only take a certain taxi because his wheelchair only goes in the ones that have a larger trunk) after finally making the wheechair fit we had the cab driver try to take us to the grocery store and she had no idea where she was going so we ended up just coming back to the hospital. We will try shopping again later. Kyle had his 4th injection last night and everything went good. Today in therapy we are going to see if we can have them start working on trunk stability. Otherwise not much new. Kyle told us today that when he gets home and continues to progress that he is getting a tatoo that says “made in china.” I think he was serious. Andrew is starting to get a little crabby on me but we are working on that. We have started to count down the days before we come home. I am actually starting to miss work.

Take care everybody and keep us in your thoughts and prayers

Change of Plans

It’s Kyle and today wasn’t the greatest day.  Acu-puncture was a disaster and I never want to do it again, but I know that it may be part of all my success so far.  It started when Tom, my therapist, put the needle to far into my right arm.  Eventually he had to remove it because the pain was to much.  Then, when my mom was talking to one of the other families, she decided to move my leg with four needles in it without even thinking about it.  After our morning was over, we had nothing to do.  Then my mom asked Tom for a massage, which she said was awesome.  Next, when we were eating diner, one of the student doctors came in and told us that I will be having my fourth injection tomorrow rather than Friday because they are getting the stem cells from another city.  Just geting ready for bed now.  Good morning!

Continued…

Right after I posted my last blog I went to P.T. and while I was laying on my back I straightened my right arm unasissted!  Also my mouth is opening more and my jaw has yet to get tired even when eating beef jerkey and pizza.  When I had electric wave therapy my hand was twitching because the power was up higher than normal.  Also on our way to the dining room I carried the apple juice instead of just the paper cups because I was feeling strong.  It has been a great day and I feel better and stronger than I have in a really long time.  Prince Fielder hitting his first grand slam helps also.  Thanks for reading and we cant wait to read all of your wonderful comments every morning.

MORE IMPROVEMENTS!!!

It is Kyle and I am so excited to report that the day after my third injection I have noticed a great improvement in the strength of my arms and hands along with my neck, that has yet to feel tired today!!!  Mr. Mullen better watch out because when I get to strength and conditioning class next year my arms are going to be bigger than his (not like that is hard to do).  That is not the only big news we have recieved within the last 24 hours, however.  Because we have to be here until July 8th and our last treatment is on the 3rd, I will be recieving one more injection bringing the total to 8!  Today Andrew and I went across the street to get a coffee at Angel In Us Coffee for me, then went to the park down the street to play basketball (I am not playing YET) and a couple of guys asked Andrew to play with them so he did for about 30 minutes.  All in all a good day.   Tonight we are going to try a new Japanese resturaunt.  They cook right in front of us like JMK in Rockford. Love you all and cant wait to see you!
