We just got back to our room after a very difficult procedure.  It took 2 hours, 3 IV sticks and an (unsuccessful) tranquilizer to get this procedure done.  The IV line finally went into a vein – in his foot this time.  We don’t necessarily think it is overly painful for him, we just know that he HATES being restrained so he gets very mad, irritated and upset.  Justin is very sensitive to touch normally – he doesn’t even like to have his hands touched by us, so you can imagine how mad it made him being held down by 4 nurses.  It was hard for us to watch and nearly impossible to comfort him, but with 10 minutes left of the procedure, he finally calmed down and went to sleep.  He is now sleeping (pic above) with Georgie his sleeping buddy, and we hope those stem cells are working hard inside him.

One more injection to go – a spinal on Monday March 3.

Take it from me an old pediatric nurse, it is hard to watch procedures being done on your child, it is hard for those of us on the other side of the coin also. But, you just have to trust in the hurt making it all better in the end. Just give him lots of hugs and kisses after the procedures. This is opening up a whole strange world for him that is scary enough, and now he is seeing things he has never seen before and I am sure it is very scary!! But, I know you know all this! I am thinking of you all and praying everything goes ok and you will all be home soon with all of the pain and hurts behind you.

Best wishes Lora, Jason, and Justin,
Hopefully Justin can rest for a while now without being “fussed with”. The progress sounds wonderful. He will not even really remember the discomfort…We’ll keep praying and running home to check the blog!!!

Sounds like you had a trying day. Hopefully today was a day of rest…. Justin looks soooo comfortable in this picture a very deserving rest. You are half way through, how amazing. I am sure the days seem really long by now and NJ sounds like a vacation resort. I know you feel the constant prayers each day, keep the faith and know the rewards are only beginning!! God has such a plan for this very special little boy that has touched so many people in so many places. With prayers and thoughts! Take time this weekend to do something special for your birthday Lora Marie!!!
