3 Month check up

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Well it has been 3 months since we left China. Kacie is making small improvements all the time. She can now play twister without help. She can see where to put her hands and feet. She can even spin the dial and tell you what color it landed on. This was something that we had to help her with before.

Kacie is in the 4th grade this year and a new building. She has figured it out very well. I have walked her in to school every morning since she started preschool. I have never seen her look around so much. She use to walk into school and her eyes would look down and she would just use her cane. Now she tilts her head backwards and is trying to look where she is going. She seems to be walking faster and with more confidence.  When Kacie gets to the end of the hallway where she turns to go to her class room she looks around to see where she needs to go. She even spotted the water fountain at 20 ft away.

Though the eye doctor says he has seen no scientific evidence that her vision has changed,  I have.  I can’t figure out how he says nothing has changed when her left eye only seen light and dark. Now it can see movement for sure. On Thursday Kacie couldn’t count his fingers with the left eye but she said she could something stickin up. The eye doctor believes we are just trainin her brain and nothing else is changing. I don’t think he wants to believe that this treatment will change anything.  But what I don’t understand is how you train an eye that has never seen!!! We will get photos of her optic nerve at her 6 month check up. I hope there is some evidence for him then to tell we’re not training her brain.

I have seen Kacie for 9 years and I can say that she is changing, though it is slow. I do not tell her to look around and see all the new things she just has started this on her own.  When you ask her if what she sees is different, she’ll say “yeah it is a little. ”
