Anything that resemble’s American food or culture makes me feel better. I attempted to have the mindset while in China do as the Chinese do, but after so much rice and noodles enough is enough. I decided then, when in China do what the Americans would do. We called Pizza Hut and order a large meat lovers pizza. The pizza cost 75 rmb’s which is about $9.00. The delivery charge was 4 rmb’s which is about $.50. The delivery man rode his bicycle to the hospital. We decided to give him an additional 6rmb’s which is about $.75 (big American spender’s). We had a little trouble getting him to keep the additional money. He thought we didn’t know how much money we gave him. After he left we dove in. I had three pieces and Jarrett had seven, but who’s counting. (oink oink). Thirty minutes later the same delivery man showed up with the cheese and spices he forgot to give us. The tip must have been pretty good for him to return! I continue to work hard in rehab hoping these new cells will multiply and create a miracle. I keep trying to remember Jim Valvano, the head coach of North Carolina State who won the NCAA tournament from one of the lowest seed’s ever. Afterwards he was diagnosed with cancer and died but not without a fight. His motto was “never give up don’t ever give up.” I hope I can live up to his motto. I’m trying to learn what really makes a winner is not what we achieve compared to others, but what we can achieve given what we have to work with. I have my next stem cell injection this afternoon so I’ll finish this later. God willing. Wayne

You have the same spirit and drive as Jimmy V. As your treatments continue, you know how many people are thinking, praying, and sending positive thoughts your way. Keep working and keep the faith! Love, Cindy

    Hi Wayne-O,
Glad to hear that you and Jarrett are getting along so well.
You probably know this, but we got to spend some time with Deb last weekend. She had plenty of encouraging and funny stories to tell about her time in China. We will do our best to keep her entertained until you get home!!!
Keep up all the the hard work and we will keep sending up our prayers,
    Love You Lots,
    Angie and Terri
P.S. My dad asks about you all the time but he’s not a big computer guy…big shocker I know!!!

    Wayne and Jarrett,
I’m so glad to still get info from you. I bet the pizza really hit the spot. We just had some the other night. Deb thought you would be pigging-out on McDonald’s. Glad to hear you have a taste for a healthier type of food! Ha!
I guess we need to be careful what we wish for. Now it seems as though the rain doesn’t want to stop. Gene says to let it rain – when it stops in the next day or two we will see the dust flying again by next week. He’s probably right.
Sure hope your injection went well.
I still can’t believe you only have about one week left. I’m sure with each passing day you are getting more excited about returning home.
When you mentioned Jim Valvano, I can still see him running out onto the basketball court in disbelief. What a Cinderella story – too bad it had to end so abruptly for him. He definitely was a very strong man to have fought his cancer the way he did. Just as you are doing to try and help yourself to a better life after an unfortunate accident.
Not much else to say tonight, except goodnight and good morning.
    God Willing!
    Thoughts and prayers,
    Gene and Carol
