TRANSLATION OF TEXT FROM VIDEO INTERVIEW (2005)

The Husband:

Before the treatment, her situation was as follows. When she went out, she was often disoriented and felt dizzy. And she did not make sense. She was constantly in this situation. Secondly, she had difficulty in sleeping at night. She sat up suddenly at night and said something abnormal. Before day break, she would say something like she was in a dream. For example, one day, she mentioned her father. They called their father “A Ba”. She said: “A Ba” is coming. In fact, her father died in 1972. It was many years ago. Suddenly, she said this, and I felt scared. She has improved even though some problems remained. For example, since we returned home before spring festival, she has energy and her look is good. People in our neighborhood have said she has changed a lot. My burden is now lightened because she can sleep better than before. Of course, she still has difficulties in sleeping once in a while. For instance, at midnight she sometimes gets up and can’t fall asleep. However, this has decreased a lot. For another thing, now after she gets up in the morning, she washes and has breakfast and does other things just like a normal person. In the morning, for example, she goes out to buy breakfast, and washes the dishes. She didn’t do these at all before. Now she can go get groceries and clean the vegetables.

Interviewer: Have her every day living abilities gotten better?

Husband:

Yes, she did not do daily activities before which meant that I had to do it. On the 28th of last month, she could not fall asleep because she said could not breathe. She was afraid that she would die in her sleep. I was frightened by what she said. Finally, after she fell asleep, I found that she slept well that night. So I feel she has changed a lot. That night, I felt scared, but she slept well instead. Another point is about her going out. She went out frequently before but she was in a bad mood when going out. I felt she was like a lunatic and behaved abnormal. I was worried about her going out on her own. Now, I feel she speaks more normally than before. We have come back to the hospital several times during the last while and recently she came on her own twice. She came to the hospital for the check up on her own. I didn’t dare to let her do it on her own before. I didn’t dare to.

Chu Bao zhen: I came here twice…

Husband:

Another point is she walks around near our home much more. I feel she is not interested staying at home. She said our home is stuffy. Our apartment is on the first floor. Maybe it is stuffy. But our apartment has the north and south windows, so it should be well ventilated. She says she feels it is stuffy, which means that she is still sick. Right? But mentally, I feel she has improved and is more normal now than before even though she is still different from normal people. Thus, the pressure on my mind decreases. I feel better than before. Especially because I did not get a chance to sleep at night before the treatment. It turns out to be better in this aspect. Now I have confidence in her. Since she has improved, I think it the treatment has good affect on her.

Interviewer: She now acts as a member of the family and the society? Does it show that her quality of life is better than before?

Husband: Yes.

Interviewer: She now acts as a member of the family and the society? Does it show that her quality of life is better than before?

Husband: Yes.

Interviewer: And also is her spirit better?

The Husband:

Yes. People in the neighborhood wonder why she has to go to hospital, because she looks healthy now. But if they talk a lot to her, they will find that she is still not healthy. We know that she is sick but the strangers can not tell now. She is now healthy in her appearance.
