NAME: Nicholas

COUNTRY: Australia

AGE: 7

DIAGNOSIS: Cerebral Palsy

REASON FOR COMING FOR TREATMENT
Nicholas was diagnosed in Australia with Cerebral Palsy with Myoclonic Epilepsy. He was also diagnosed with Hydrocephalus due to an imbalance of cerebral spinal fluid in his brain. In spite of his condition he leads an active life spending time with his family and going to school. But his condition stunted cognitive and motor development. His family selected Beike Biotech to provide stem cell transplants for Nicholas.

TREATMENT: Umbilical cord stem cell injections with rehabilitation therapy

BEFORE THE TREATMENT
Nicholas’ Cerebral Palsy presented with a large number of symptoms. His motor control throughout his body was impaired—including fine motor control. The right side of his body was much weaker than his left side. His right leg was shorter than his left leg due to high tone. He walked with an awkward gait and required supports in his shoes for assistance. He had difficulty opening his hands and his right hand posed a particular challenge for him. Without much control of his lips and tongue he drooled a lot and was vocally confined to a small range of sounds he could produce. Nicholas was conscious of the world around him and what was happening to him but was incapable of expressing needs and wants—leading to frequent tantrums.

AFTER TREATMENT 2007
After Nicholas’ first round of treatment in September 2007 his mother states that he had gained strength—and particularly on his weaker right side. The tone in his right leg dropped considerably allowing him to walk more smoothly with improved balance. His Nicholas’ control of his lips and tongue improved helping him reduce his drooling. Nicholas maintained these improvements right up to his second round of treatment.

AFTER TREATMENT 2008
After Nicholas’ second round of treatment in October 2008 his mother states that even more progress has been made. He is able to hold himself up on all fours—something that the high tone in his right arm had prohibited before. The tone in his right hand also lowered allowing him to use the hand more effectively. He is controlling his walking speed more effectively reducing the risk of a fall. He is walking up and down flights of stairs with less difficulty. His posture has improved allowing him to sit upright better and lie on his back while sleeping. His mother also noted that his mental clarity had improved. She states that he is initiating eye contact more and he will readily seek her out when he needs something while before he would walk in circles in greater and greater frustration. She states that his television viewing has changed and he will readily watch more complicated programs.  “I didn’t come here with high expectations, first or second time,” she said, “but I have seen so much come out of it.”
