CONDITION BEFORE THE TREATMENT:

See Videos: before1 , before2

Before coming to China Attila suffered constantly from stiff and rigid muscles. His balance was poor; he could not get down the stairs without catching the handrail, he could not walk very fast and his walking was bumpy and uncoordinated. He could not bend his right knee while walking and used to lean forward with his upper body, a posture which worsened his sense of balance.

He used to tire quickly from walking and suffer from back ached after a relatively long walk. He suffered from painful cramps in his legs, mostly during the night.

Attila's right arm and hand had very limited movement, and since he is right handed, it had affected greatly on his daily activities. He could not straighten his right arm more than 150; he could not fully open his right hand fingers, which were spastic and were mostly closed inside his palm. He could grasp objects with his right hand but with little strength, which made writing and eating difficult tasks for him.

AFTER TREATMENT:

See Videos: after1 , after2

The main improvement Attila saw after 6 weeks of treatment was less muscle tension and more strength in his muscles. He didn't have cramps in his legs anymore, which also improved his night sleep. His legs didn't feel as stiff as they were before the treatment. He could now walk longer without tiring and didn't suffer from back ache after walking.

During the physiotherapy sessions at the hospital Attila learned to control his posture, to bend his knee and hold his upper body straight while walking, which improved his walking to be more balanced, easy and coordinated. His general sense of balance improved, and he was now much more stable.

His right arm's range of movement had improved in 10 and he could now straighten it up to 160. He could now open his right hand fingers wider than before, and could do so more easily and quickly. He could now grasp objects better with his fingers and his hand writing had significantly improved.

Before the treatment Attila used to type in his computer quite slowly, and could not control the "mouse". After the treatment he started to use the "mouse" and his overall control of using a computer has improved.

To date, Attila Lawrence is the oldest CP patient treated at Tiantan Puhua Hospital.
