NAME:
Nguyen Thi Chin

SEX: Female

COUNTRY: Vietnam

AGE: 57 years old

REASON FOR TREATMENT: Chin has had Parkinson’s disease for over 20 years. In the last 3 years her condition has deteriorated significantly.

DIAGNOSIS: Parkinson’s Disease stage IV (Hoehn/Yahr scale)

BEGINNING OF TREATMENT:  June 29th, 2007

TREATMENT:
hRPE stem cells implantation (human Retinal Pigment Epithelial cells, adult stem cells) by stereotactic brain injection + nutritious stem cell cocktail treatment (intravenous).

CONDITION BEFORE THE TREATMENT:

See Videos:  Before1Before2

Chin began showing Parkinson’s symptoms over 20 years ago. What started as slight tremors on the right side of her body gradually advanced into severe rigidity through her body and a general slowness of movement. In the last 3 years, Chin became completely dependent on caregivers for all her daily activities and personal care.

She could no longer turn over in bed, or get out of bed by herself. Chin could no longer feed herself or even hold a cup of water, as her hands were too weak.
Her speech was very slow and soft.

She could hardly walk and could only do few steps with support. She could not stand up from a sitting position on her own. She had no strength, nor energy to remain sitting up in a chair. During the last three years she spent most of her days lying in bed.

She has also lost nearly 10kg in 3 years.

AFTER THE TREATMENT:

See Videos: After1 , AfterOT

After 8 weeks of treatment, Chin’s muscle strength increased significantly. She could lift her arms up, which she could not do before. She could now hold a cup of water and drink by herself when previously she did not even have the capability to open her mouth when given a drink. She requires less help now in feeding herself and eat more than before.

Her leg muscles got stronger and she could now walk better since she could lift her legs without shuffling. She could now walk few steps on her own without support.

Her voice got stronger, louder and clearer, and she could now communicate better.

A significant change in her general energy was noticed. Prior to the treatment, she laid down most of the day, with no energy to talk or sit with her family. After treatment she began to sit in a chair instead of lying in bed, she talked more, smiled more and had the energy and the will to communicate and spend time with her family.
