See Tim's daily blog while he was having the treatment.

NAME:
Timothy Graf

COUNTRY: Canada

AGE: 45

DIAGNOSIS: Spinocerebellar Ataxia 2

REASON FOR COMING FOR TREATMENT: Had a family history of Ataxia. Started to feel the effects in the 3 years prior to treatment.

START OF TREATMENT: April 4, 2006 Umbilical Cord Stem Cell and Nerve Growth Factor Injections with Rehabilitation Therapy

BEFORE THE TREATMENT:

Videos (4/10): Before 1, Walking Bars, Walking Line

Afflicted by a mild onset of ataxia symptoms. The patient perceives difficulties in walking, which he describes as necessitating concentration before stepping down stairs, or the need to identify an object to use as a walking aid, for his confidence. In videos of him walking before treatment, he has a very strong walk for a sufferer of ataxia, though displays considerable difficulties when walking heel-to-toe. The patient also complains of sporadic tiredness and trouble maintaining concentration for extended periods. His wife reports occasional slurring.

AFTER THE TREATMENT:

When walking down stairs, the patient claims to no longer require the use of a handrail, reporting that the change has arisen out of a confidence that he has greater coordination. He also discusses an improvement in his ability to stay focussed on objects, stating that in the past, concentration would lapse or, "Things would get blurry." He also makes the point that his energy levels experienced the most pronounced improvements after intravenous stem cell treatment, stating in interview that he, "Needed to walk 20 blocks to get rid of energy to allow him to sleep."

Videos (5/10): After 1, After 2, Walking Bars, Throwing, Walking, Touching Nose, Walking Line, Walking Sideways

Video (5/10): Tim and Sharon Talk about the Hospital and Doctors.

China Stem Cell News Notes: Tim came at the very early stages of his disease, so for some of the excercises there are not striking changes of improvments to the naked eye, such as when he is walking the bars. However, the walking the line videos, before and after, show the most in terms of improvement.
