NAME: Chen Li Shu

COUNTRY: China

AGE: 19

DIAGNOSIS: Multiple Sclerosis in 2001

START OF TREATMENT: January 17, 2006. (stayed in the hospital for 27 days)

FOLLOW UP VISITS: March, April, September, 2006.

BEFORE THE TREATMENT:

The patient suffered from MS since 2001 (age 13). In the months prior to treatment, her physical condition worsened to the extent that she was temporarily unable to move. During better periods, she could not stand from a sitting position, and could walk short distances only with assistance. She suffered convulsive and involuntary shaking of the head. Her fingers lacked sensation, resulting in an inability to grip things and to write. She had problems swallowing and eating, and her speech was very slow. There were periods in which she could not control her bladder or bowel movement.

She had severe double vision, which affected her balance and her sight. Her body was numb from the chest down and she had minimal sensation in her hands and legs. Her muscle strength was very poor. She suffered from periods of irregularly overactive symptoms during which her condition got more and more severe.

AFTER THE TREATMENT:

The interview was taken 9 months after the beginning of the treatment.

The most significant improvement after treatment was in Chen's ability to walk - at best during the 9 month period, she could walk at a normal pace for a few kilometers. The severity and frequency of the shaking of her head reduced, her speech improved to the degree that she could speak at an almost normal speed. There were improvements in her ability to grasp and hold things, as sensation returned to her hands and fingers. She regained a moderate level of sensation throughout her body. Her swallowing problems improved and she exhibited increased control over her bladder and bowel movements. Her body appeared much stronger. Her optic problems remained unaltered.
