An Alliance kindergarten student suffering from cerebral palsy is preparing to go to China for a cutting-edge medical treatment not yet available in the U-S, and the community is holding a fundraiser dinner, dance, and silent auction for him this Saturday at the Alliance Eagles Club.

6-year old Braden Frohman is confined to a wheelchair with impaired speech and no use of his arms. He communicates using a computer purchased for him by the Alliance Public Schools, controlling a speech simulator with his eyes.

Braden has made repeated trips to the Shriners Hospital in Minneapolis and Children's Hospital in Omaha since being diagnosed 4 years ago, but with essentially no improvement.

His mother Stephanie says the family has been applying to hospitals around the world, looking for new treatments and procedures...with a hospital in Hang Zhou, China, the first to accept Braden.

The Chinese treatment will involve injections of stem cells taken from an umbilical cord. Stephanie says the doctors aren't making any promises, but told the family that Braden is a very good candidate for the treatment and they are very hopeful.

Braden and one of his parents will need to stay in China for at least 40 days for the treatment, with all the expenses falling to the family.

That's led to tomorrow's fundraiser on Saturday at the Alliance Eagles Club, with a number of Scottsbluff and Alliance businesses and individuals have donated items for a dinner and silent auction.

It begins with a spaghetti feed from 5-to-7 with $8 for adults and $4 for kids 12 and under that include the dance from 8-to-midnight with The Players Band, which is donating its services. Tickets for just the dance are $5 per person.

A bake sale runs from 5-to-8, and the silent auction goes from 5 to 10. Items included the autographed shoes worn by Denver Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony in the final first-round game against New Orleans, and a $50 gas card plus 4 tickets to the Nebraska-Texas Tech football game October 17th in Lincoln.

Cash donations to help Braden Frohman will also be accepted at the benefit or may be left at the First National Bank in Alliance in care of Aaron and Stephanie Frohman for the benefit.
